Irrigation channel path Merano

This path between the water irrigation channels, so called "Waalwege", allows to walk all over the area of Meran at a height between 400 and 900 meters. The walking path unites the following eleven irrigation channel trails: Algund – Kuens - Riffian - Mais - Schenna - Brandis - Tscherms - Marling - Partschins - Rabland - Naturns.
The path is passable throughout the whole year. Hikers can walk the entire trail in eight stages over one week, or alternatively experience one leg as a day tour. The path between the Merano irrigation channels supplements the beloved Merano High Mountain Trail.
"Waale" are ancient irrigation channels, formerly used to water the alpine meadows and the fruit orchards, with paths running alongside them to provide access for maintenance purposes. Nowadays these paths, or "Waalwege" provide great opportunities for walking.
